Presentation

Thanks to the generosity of the inhabitants of this village and the energy of its priest, the Abbé Laurent – parish priest and dean from 1860 to 1880, I was restored in the style that was fashionable then. The government of Napoleon III was by calculation more and more favourable to the Church; the clergy were numerous and well-educated priests remained a long time in the same living; all these reasons caused a renewal of faith in the countryside. It was for these reasons that a small village like Lusigny could partly rebuild its church and reconsider me completely.

Admire the beautiful C14th Virgin that’s been skilfully restored and highlighted. The reliquaries come from the abbey of Larrivour and they include one that contains the remains of Jeanne the Recluse who died in 1246.Framed images of the catechism have been gathered in the entry. It’s the splendid stained glass from the Champignolle workshops in Bar-le-Duc and Vincent Feste in Troyes that give me unity. This was a century of great transformations and we re-examined our faith in this region: Saint Loup, Saint Savinien, Saint Germaine and Saint Mathie for the local saints, St Gervais and Prothais, Saint Vincent de Paul, the apostle of charity, Saint François Xavier, for evangelisation, Saint Augustine and Saint Monique his mother, lively images of the faith… and the sacraments: the Eucharist… Pious practices: the Rosary… After 150 years, this well preserved whole is invaluable; it is a rare witness by its unity of a moment in the history of the faith.
